Getting your hair thinned at a salon?

I have very fine but VERY thick medium length hair. It's not curly but has a natural wave if I let it dry naturally.I can't stand it. It's just too thick for me to do anything with and it's heavy and HOT in the summertime. Is hair thinning a good decision?

"Thinning" Most Hair Types Can Be A Problem, I've Had Mine "Thinned" And Hated It Later. The Thinning Process Involves Cutting Some Of Your Hair VERY Short With Special "Serrated" Shears, This Can Cause A "Fuzzy Halo" Effect As The Hairs Grow-Out Especially In "High Static" Weather. See A Good Stylist And Get Their Opinions (AND Options) For Your Hairtype Good-Luck!

I got my hair thin because it seemed like agood idea and it is great for summer and it works I say yes!

I have your same exact hair style. Very thick when I air dry it and it get's very wavy and frinzzy. I would get it textured like I once did before. Trust me!!! It helps a lot. It's easyer to wash and you don't have to take much time for your hair anymore. I promise!!!It's much lighter and takes weight off your head too! It is really good in the summer time to cause it's over 90 degrees here. I think it is a very good decision! If you want to....you could always straighten it, but that isn't the best idea. I hope you get it thinned because it's the best chose!!!Your on the right track!!! And I wouldn't get it layered because it will make it fluffy and more thick.

I have extremely thick hair and I get it thinned every time I have my hair trimmed and I LOVE it! It takes so much weight off and makes it more manageable.

My hair is very thick also, and I have it thinned a bit every time it's cut. Make sure you really trust your stylist, because it can be done incorrectly and cause you problems later. I would steer clear of a chain-type discount salon and maybe go to a higher end place. Call ahead and ask to schedule with a stylist who has experience working with your hair type. Good luck!

I have similar hair. I struggled with it for years. I found a GREAT stylist finally that knew how to deal with it. Thinning can make it worse if it's not done properly. You need to find a MASTER stylist with experience with this type of hair, and ask him/her to thin with scissors (sort of like a chopping motion where the blades are fixed) or a razor. DO NOT let anyone "thin" your hair with those scissors that look like pinking shears...you'll get bubble head for sure! Your style can make all the difference too. If you get a good style, a great stylist and good thinning/texturizing you'll feel 10 pounds lighter, won't sweat in the summer and will be a happy camper! Good luck!!

Hair thinning is NOT a good decision.

Why dont you go to a specialist like Ouidad hair salon or some salons that specialize in curly/wavy hair. They have a technique of reducing the volume without making the hair weird and crazy... Believe me I have gone thru this myself... it was a disaster

I have thick coarse hair. You can try this technique.

1%26gt; Try to get a deep treatment done...or you an do it yourself with Ouidad Deep treatment once a month. Or any deep treatment that you like. Check online for ratings.

For the Ouidad conditioner you need to apply the conditioner and use a heat cap for 20 min. You can buy this at any beauty supply store

Then use a mild shampoo if you really cannot do without a shampoo. I have read that it is nothing but harsh detergent.

I was told that you can actually wash your hair with conditioner and use the palms of your hand to scrub your hair and scalp. This works as efficiently as any shampoo nad DOES not strip the hair of moisture.

I have used Nexxus Ultimate moisture for my hair or the Nexus Color Assure shampoo if you color ur hair.

Then use the ultimate conditioning moisturizer also from nexxus. Coat every strand and dont be afraid to use more.

Keep the conditioner on for 3 min and DO NOT RINSE OFF COMPLETELY. If you do want to wash it off completely. Just b4 u get out of the shower, apply some conditioner to your hair and leave it in.

Then when your hair is damp....NOT WET apply L'oreal's Intense smoothing serum or Garnier Smooth %26amp; Sleek serum to your hair and comb with a wide comb

Then use a good hair dryer on the slowest setting and blow dry or use a flat iron if u need to.

Good luck...

Let me know if this helps after you try it out.

I understand, I have or had the same problem, what my hairstylist does is something that she learn in Miami with professionals. Let me see if I can explain she cuts the hair very close to the scalp in places you will not notice but if you run your hand thru it you can feel like you have shaved it. try to explain it to your hair stylist and see if she has heard of it. It works for me and I just get retouch every six weeks and you can not even tell.
