I need my hair done! I'm in Long Beach, CA are you a good colorist with reasonable prices?

I've lived in Cali. for 2 years and have yet to find a good stylist, the last 2 people I've gone to have really jacked up my hair, and they have been at reputable salons. I have medium brown hair, and just want it dyed back to its natural color with a few highlights put in. That's what I requested last time, and now my hair is very brassy and is not even close to my natural color. Help!!!

I need my hair done! I'm in Long Beach, CA are you a good colorist with reasonable prices?

How to Get the Hair Color You Want

--------------------------------------...

GETTING THE COLOR YOU WANT

The most important aspect of getting your Hair Stylist or Colorist to give you the color you want is COMMUNICATION.

How each person sees color is different. Therefore, the words we individually use to describe color varies from person to person.

For example, is a stick of butter yellow or cream colored?

The first and foremost point of getting your Hair Stylist or Colorist to know the exact hair color you want is to make certain you are both "seeing" the same color.

I recommend you take pictures to your Stylist/Colorist.

The pictures can be of anything, not just hair. You can take a picture of a glass of Iced Tea sitting in the sun, in order to convey the concept of Light Golden Brown. You can take a picture of a gemstone, such as a Tiger's Eye, to convey the colors you want in your highlights.

Pictures are worth thousands and thousands of words when it comes to coloring hair.

Prior to beginning the hair coloring application you must know that you and your stylist are sharing the same vision, leaving no room for "interpretation."

--------------------------------------...

USING HAIR COLOR SWATCHES

Sometimes I get a new client whose hair color needs correction. Frequently this is because she had chosen a "hair color swatch" at the previous salon.

When a stylist uses that color (of the swatch) seldom does hair become that color and this makes a client unhappy with the results.

The reason for this is a very technical matter. However, the best way to explain this to a client is that a swatch of hair color is only a sample of the "paint".

Choosing a swatch is no different than asking an artist to paint a picture with only one tube of paint.

It is the end result that is most important. It is up to the Stylist to mix the hair color to achieve that desired end result. More often than not, the swatch chosen is not what will be mixed to achieve it.

This is why it is extremely important that the hair colorist you choose understands the basics of color and knows color mixing and application extremely well.

--------------------------------------...

WHAT IT TAKES TO GET THE END RESULT

The Stylist/Colorist is going to be ADDING and/or SUBTRACTING color from your existing hair color to achieve the color result you know you want to have.

So, when it comes to using swatches to "pick" the color you want to have, the likelihood that that particular tube of color will give you the exact same color of the swatch is not very good.

So, I highly recommend that you choose your colorist well and use pictures, not swatches to convey your desired end result.

--------------------------------------...

PUTTING ART INTO HAIR

Only once a Stylist knows the theory of hair color extremely well does coloring hair become an art form.

The Art of Coloring Hair is totally dependent upon the knowledge the Colorist has regarding color, mixing color and foiling techniques and placement.

Then, and only then, can a colorist perform Art.

--------------------------------------...

ARTFUL HAIR COLOR FOILING APPLICATIONS

Beauty Schools teach foiling techniques in the most basic way and those rules are strongly advised to NEVER BE BROKEN. To be an Artist with Hair Coloring takes years of experience and application of foils for a Stylist/Colorist to become free from those rules.

The results can be spectacular if the Stylist/Colorist knows many different foiling techniques. I teach these advanced techniques to Stylists.

--------------------------------------...

SPEED OF APPLICATION

There are many Stylists/Colorists out there who are not able to speedily place foils. I am certain that many of you have spent over five hours at a Hair Salon in order to have your hair colored and/or foiled.

The one thing to keep in mind when choosing a Colorist is that speed and efficiency come from having done color successfully on many, many heads of hair.

--------------------------------------...

HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE IS REALLY NEEDED?

If I were to count up how many heads of hair I have colored over the past 19 years the totals would be extraordinary.

But a Stylist/Colorist does not have to have had colored hair for 19 years to be ACCURATE and EFFICIENT.

A Stylist/Colorist has to KNOW what he or she is doing and with that certainty comes speed and efficiency.

So, don't let someone tell you that you have to be at the salon for 4 to 5 hours.

A full head of long-hair, multi-colored foil application should take no longer than one hour to apply. Add another 30 minutes for processing, another 10 for shampooing and conditioning, and another 30 minutes for the shaping and blow dry. That is a total of only 2 hours and 10 minutes.

It does not have to "take all day at the Hair Salon" to get the results you want!

So, if your Colorist is slow, then he/she is either not very experienced or has not learned the more efficient foiling techniques I teach.

--------------------------------------...

PRICING

The price of hair color is not cheap. Tubes or bottles of Professional Hair Color cost the Salon owner about $5 each. And when you add peroxide and other supplies to the equation, you are looking at approximately $8 used for each tube/bottle of color used. Add three or four more colors to the Highlight and Lowlight foiling application and that brings the total cost of product up to approximately $40.

This price does not include the Stylist's/Colorist's time or the Artistic Application of the hair color onto the hair.

When you combine the cost of the product, plus the time and expertise of a Colorist, you are looking at about $100 for a short hair partial weave, $150 for a short hair full weave, and the prices continue to climb from there. Long hair prices are higher due to the amount of additional product used, and the amount of time it takes to place the color onto the hair.

Remember, as with any high end quality product - you get what you pay for.

--------------------------------------...

HAIR COLOR PRICE QUOTES

When calling a Salon to request prices of Hair Color, it is always best to receive a price range. Many times the way a person describes his or her hair over the phone is not actually what the Hair Stylist/Colorist sees when the client arrives.

There are many factors that have to be taken into account. And, most likely the receptionist does not know to ask about these factors on the phone.

It is best to receive a consultation first. That way you will know exactly how much the Hair Coloring Service is going to cost.

Please do not be shocked if you call a Salon to ask for a price and later find out it is much more than what you were quoted on the phone.

--------------------------------------...

SUMMARY:

Being in control of the color results is the job of the Colorist.

It is up to you as a Client to first communicate what results you want to the Stylist/Colorist.

IF the Stylist/Colorist does NOT 100% understand exactly what you want, then you have to keep on communicating.

IF you feel that the Stylist/Colorist is NOT fully understanding you, it may be best to find another Stylists/Colorist.

As a Client you are the one that must be HAPPY with your hair.

There are many, many Stylists out there - take the time to find one who can give you what you really want!

And have a great time wearing it!

Eyes To Match

One subtle beauty idea out there is to have eyeliners that match most of your wardrobe. I mean you do not want to look like you are wearing face paint, but you want to make sure that everything blends. Just a little splash of color around your eyes to help in the accenting of your ensemble.

Remember we want to look beautiful all the time but we want to match as well. So do not overdo it with the eyeliner just in case you have to change. Remember less is more when it comes to make-up. We want to be noticed but in a good way, not because we look silly.

Foundation Is Essential

The first thing that you should apply to your face when it comes to make up is the perfect foundation for your skin. To select the right one, choose a foundation that matches you skin tone. When shopping for a foundation based on your skin tone, put the product up to your hand. Does it match? Foundation works as an evening agent to get rid of uneven patches around your face. It can be used in just small areas for a good way of blending too. Your make up application will look much better when you apply foundation to your face first.

Simple Lip Liner

A small beauty idea for you would involve the lip liner. Let us not forget about our lips when beautifying ourselves. However we are talking about making a small statement not looking to send up a flare. We want people to notice all of our assets including our lips.

We can help to make people notice our lips with just a small amount of lip liner. We are not going for the full bore stop sign red lipstick here, but just a little accent to get our mouth noticed. We want people to see our beautiful lips we do not however want them to be staring at them. So just use a little lip liner to set your lips off to help in the balancing of all of your make up for the day or night out.

Exfoliating For Cleaner Skin

When faced with an issue of oily or acne ridden skin, one beauty idea to consider is exfoliating. We all want our skin blemish free and vibrant do we not. So why not consider the use of an exfoliating scrub to take care of some of those blemishes and to clean out those pores.

There are many products and tools on the market today that will help with the exfoliating. There are creams and sponges and the list goes on. Just remember that this is something to help you look more beautiful, not a torture device.

So get in there and scrub, scrub, scrub.

What Type of Foundation Is Right for You?

When buying foundation, you need to keep several things in mind. First, you need to know your skin type. If you have dry skin and use a lot of moisturizer over fine lines and patchy spots, you need a thicker foundation that contains a bit of oil that won鈥檛 clog pores. You can also use some of the cream to powder foundations that provide heavier coverage. If you have oily skin, a water based foundation is best. Look for some that include blemish fighters if you tend to break out. If you have combination skin, oily on the forehead and chin and dry other places, you need a balancing foundation that is water based.

Cream vs. Powder Blush

If you are trying to decide between cream or powder blush, you may be confused about which type is right for you and what the advantages of each really is. For people who have some experience applying makeup, cream blushes or even cheek stains are a great way to go. But they do take some skill to apply correctly, as they are harder to clean up after when a mistake is made. Cream blushes are more suited for dry skin as well. If you have oily or break-out prone skin, stick with powder blush which won鈥檛 add any unnecessary moisture to your skin. You can sweep it on easily and wipe it off at any time if you get too much in one spot.

Picking the perfect facial for your skin type

One of the easiest ways to improve your overall skin tone is to have a professional facial done at your local salon. But sometimes looking at the 鈥榤enu鈥?of services can leave you wondering if it鈥檚 even worth the trouble. Here鈥檚 a quick way to determine your skin type so that you can pick the facial that will truly help you. First thing in the morning, wash your face, but don鈥檛 apply any moisturizer or makeup. Wait about twenty minutes and then take a paper bag and push it onto your entire face. When the bag is oily on the entire bag, then you have oily skin. If it鈥檚 not oily on any parts of the bag, you have normal skin. If the bag is oily in some areas, but not others, you have combination skin. If your skin is tight and no oil shows up on the bag, you have dry skin.

A perfect pedicure in five steps

Your feet are finally free from the socks and boots of the winter, but they probably need a little attention before making their appearance in the world. Here are the five things that you need to do to get them ready for the sunshine:

Remove that old polish

Soak and scrub 鈥?use a pumice stone when you鈥檙e in the shower to rid your feet of calluses and other rough patches, then wash and pat dry, apply moisturizer to skin around the nail

Clean underneath the nails and trim to desired length

Buff the surface of the nails and file the edges

Polish 鈥?one to two coats is generally enough along with a base coat and topcoat

Banishing a pimple

No one wants to ruin their look with a zit or a pimple, but the best way to banish them entirely is to take care of your skin every day. And here are two steps to make sure that your skin stays clear.

Start with cleansing with a mild non-soap cleanser. The bottle should indicate that it has a balanced pH so that it won鈥檛 be irritating. Use warm water (not hot) and gently use the pads of your fingers to move the cleanser around your face. Rinse and gently pat dry. Scrubbing only make the natural oils of the skin want to replace themselves more quickly, leading to more zits.

Then, apply a light moisturizer that contains sunscreen. While this routine might take a few weeks to show results, in time, your skin will start thanking you with more zit-free days.

I need my hair done! I'm in Long Beach, CA are you a good colorist with reasonable prices?

Hey girl, save your money. Go to the nearest beauty school and get your hair done. You have students gettting ready to graduate and they are right up the latest styles and coloring techinque. You will be surprise how good these stylist really are. Cost a lot less and you will more than likely be satisfy of the results. I use to pass up going to the beauty school to get my hair styled, but one day, I decided to take the leap of faith and from that day on, I go and get my hair done by the students. Also after they finish with your hair, an instructor comes and checks the finish product. If something isn't right, the instructor will fix the problem. Also the students are good about getting their instructor if they are not sure what to do.
