Help with lowlights for my hair?

I read that lowlights add dimension, and even the illusion of volume, to your hair. I have medium brown hair and was wondering how they would look.

Would they make my hair appear darker?

When they start to grow out, is it as noticable as when highlights are growing out?

low lights are really cute but they look awful when they grow out if you dont dye them again. They will make your hair darker but you want to do them a little at a time or you will end up looking gothic.
